The 23-24 Western cheer team made school history this spring as the first team in school history to compete at the NCA College Nationals in Daytona, Florida. The team received a bronze bid to the NCA College Nationals in July while attending the NCA Camp without a plan to attend. After practices began and the team grew, they set their sites on Daytona and became more determined than ever. Thanks to many supporters the team reached their funding goal and headed to Florida.

“Without the constant support of WOSC, the community, our families, and our ALUMNI, we would have never made it to that competition floor,” said Coach Turner.

Western Cheer placed 5th out of 10 teams, being the only Junior College in a division full of Universities that have attended Nationals for many years. An incredible thing to note is that more than half of the team was first-time cheerleaders. There were a few seasoned athletes, but only one had competitive cheer experience.

The cheer tryout link is now live!

Western Cheer and Mascot tryouts will be on Saturday, May 18th. On May 17th, there will be a prep clinic for those wanting to work on tryout material.

*Western does not have a minimum skill requirement to make the team, and tumbling is not required.

Visit wosc.edu/cheertryouts for more information and registration. If you have any questions about the program or the try-out process, please email us at cheer@wosc.edu.
